Picture 001

As part of our ‘Caring Sharing week’ we decided to ask everyone in our school to contribute to a huge picture in the hall. A famous artist called Lowry painted a picture called ‘Going to the match’.  As Grimsby Town Football Club is an important part of our school community, we decided to base our picture on that and paint it in the style of Lowry. Children, teachers and parents all painted a picture of themselves, cut it out and pinned it up in the hall.  We had great fun working together and we are very proud of our school and our local community.

ICT at William Barcroft School

October 13, 2009

Picture 002Rainbow Class have been given the opportunity to visit William Barcroft Junior School once every three weeks to work in their computer suite. The children have had access to both computers and digital cameras and have produced some super work and photographs. As well as developing the children’s ICT skills, the visits have  helped build strong links between the two schools and will also support and enhance transition in the future.

Summer is here!

May 11, 2009

We can’t believe it’s the Summer Term already! The time has gone so quickly. This term our topic is about HABITATS. We’re learning about the different places where plants and animals live. We were asked to decide which habitat we would like to learn about first. Our teachers wanted us to choose because they think it is important that we are interested in what we are learning about. We were asked to carry out a survey and then look at the results. We discovered that most people wanted to learn about habitats under the sea first. It’s so exciting and there is so much to learn. We always like to change our home corner into a ‘learning through play zone’ so this time we decided to change it into a rock pool and beach area. Our mum’s were kind enough to donate the sand for it. Lots of children have also been to the beach to collect shells to make it look realistic. We will have a fantastic time playing in it. We are planning to make postcard and comics in literacy to use in it – this will help both our reading and writing and also help develop our imagination.

If you have a spare minute you are welcome to have a look.

Spring Topics

January 19, 2009

Hello, and Happy new Year.

We have had a super start to the term with all our children returning eager to learn and enthusiastic about our new topics. From now until Easter we will be learning about ‘Wind and Water’. The curriculum will include lots of scientific investigations such as flying kites, sailing boats and creating electrical circuits!! We will also be learning about the true story of Grace Darling and her brave sea rescue, and in contrast, the fictional character Katie Morag who lives on an island. We are hoping that the highlight of our term will be a visit to the Grimsby Heritage Centre and a trip round Grimsby docks. If you have any materials, knowledge or expertise which could help and support our learning we would be most greatful and welcome your contribution.

Sciene Investigations

December 2, 2008

In Rainbow Class we love to find out things and doing investigations in science is great FUN!!

This term we have been learning about how materials change when they are heated or cooled.

We have done lots of experiments to find out what happens to ice balloons when different things are poured on them. We used all our senses to help us. We think science is AMAZING!! Look at our pictures and share in our fun and excitement.
